Benefits of playing outdoor games for kids

There are plenty of benefits to letting your kids loose on the playground. It is a great way for them to get some exercise, but it's also a great opportunity for them to socialise and make new friends.

Plus, playground games are a great way to teach kids cooperation and teamwork. And who knows - you might even have some fun yourself!

What are some popular outdoor games that kids love to play?

One of the best things about outdoor games is that kids of all ages can enjoy them. Here are some of our favourites:

Tag:

A classic game that never gets old. Kids will love chasing each other around in the fresh air!

Tag is a great way to get kids moving and burn off some energy. All you need is an open space and some willing participants.

Jump Rope:

Who doesn't love a good game of jump rope? This classic playground game is a great way to get kids moving and improve coordination.

To play, all you need is a rope and two willing participants. One child holds each end of the rope while the other child jumps over it.

You can make the game more challenging by having the child jump higher or do tricks.

Monkey Bars

Monkey bars are a classic outdoor activity that kids love.

All you need is a set of monkey bars and some imagination. Monkey bars can be used to create all sorts of different games, from races to obstacle courses. And because they're so versatile, they can be enjoyed by kids of all ages.

If you're looking for a fun outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy, monkey bars are a great option.

The Floor Is Lava

In this fun game all the players pretend that the floor is made of lava and they cannot touch the ground. The players must move around the room by climbing on furniture and creating bridges with common household items such as books or pillows, or if playing outside by climbing around the playground.

Any player that touches the floor during the game is out.

During the game the players must be constantly moving from one area of the room to the next and aren't allowed to sit or stand anywhere for more then 10 seconds.

Red Light, Green Light

This is a simple and fun outdoor game that doesn’t require any setup or accessories. It’s great for a small or large group of kids.

How to Play

  1. One person is designated as the "stoplight." The stoplight stands with his back toward the other players, who stand about 15 to 20 feet away from him.
  2. The stoplight calls out "green light!" which signals the players to begin moving toward him. Then the stoplight yells, "red light!" and turns around. If any player is caught moving when the stoplight turns around, that player is out.
  3. The game is over if all the players are out before anyone reaches the stoplight or if someone tags the stoplight. If a player reaches the stoplight, that person gets to be the stoplight in the next game.
